Clinic Information

A school clinic is a service provided for children by a highly qualified clinic worker. First aid is provided to children who suffer injuries at school. The clinic keeps no medication on hand to give to students. Cuts and scrapes will be cleaned, and bandages applied as needed. Anything requiring further care will be referred to the parent. This includes removal of splinters and teeth.

Parents will be called, and students sent home if they are too sick to remain at school. A child having a temperature of 100.4 degrees or more will need to be picked up from school and cannot ride the bus home. Should an emergency situation arise in which your child needs immediate medical attention, and we are unable to contact anyone, we will call “911”, and your child will be taken to the emergency room.

Medications can only be given with a completed medication form on file. This includes over-the counter medication or a doctor’s prescription. Medication forms are available in the clinic. Parents must transport all medication to school. Students are not permitted to carry medication of any kind to or from school. Medicine is not to be kept by a student. All medicine will be administered in the clinic. The teacher will not be held responsible for medication.

Clinic Hours

Some health conditions may require that additional documentation be kept on file at your local school. Please contact our school clinic worker, Ana Retana. She is available to provide services for students on school days from 7:45 am until 2:15 pm. If you have any questions or concerns or if you need to complete any forms related to your child's health.

Guidelines for Medication Administration

For the safety of all students at our school, the following guidelines should be followed when requesting administration of medication at school:

  • Only those medications required during school hours should be administered at school. Please check with your physician regarding the need for medication to be administered during school hours.
  • All medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, must be accompanied by a completed Administration of Medication Request form and brought to the school clinic by an adult. Students may not transport medication to school.
  • All medications must be in an original child-proof container. Prescription medications must be in their labeled prescription bottle. School staff will only administer medication according to the directions on the label.
  • Any medications remaining at the end of the school year must be picked up or school staff will dispose of them.
  • Students may only carry medication as prescribed by law with the required documentation. Please check with our school clinic worker if your child needs to carry emergency medication with them.
